Water Irrigation

Water Irrigation - No, not traditional ear syringing!

Water irrigation is a recognised method of ear wax removal using a controlled flow of warm water to gently flush wax from the ear canal. The wax is collected in a container held underneath the ear.

When it may be used

  • Soft or loose wax
  • Where microsuction is not required
  • Following clinical assessment

Important

This is not suitable for people who had or currently have:

  • a perforated eardrum
  • mastoid cavity
  •  suspected ear infection.
  • This is not an exhaustive list and will be discussed during consultation.

Before your appointment:
You may be advised to use olive oil drops to help soften the wax before treatment.

👉 The most appropriate treatment method will always be chosen following assessment.
